The A. S. Popov Central Museum of Communications in St. Petersburg has used my mail art for the cover of the catalogue of the show "Mailartissimo", without asking me before, not sending me an invitation to the exhibition (which is now even already closed), neither a copy of the catalogue. I asked the museum now several times in the last weeks to get a copy but did not get any reply.
What do you think about it ?

Hi Roland
The mailart is a free art where there is no financial constraint, without restriction and which often is not occupied of the royalties (when you carry out a joining, warned you them authors of the document that you cuttings), warned you them authors of the document that you cuttings) in the respect of the paternity of the authors. In the statement of the Mailartissimo project it was announced that the mailarts were published on the blog: http://triciaburr.blogspot.com/.
Admittedly it was not announced that the mailarts would be published in cover of the catalogue. For your project Andreas Hofer it is not announced that you publishes them on your blog. You warn them participating at each publication?
Personally I am against the royalties and that does not disturb me that we uses my work except may be in policy. I am in agreement with you on the fact that they would sent a specimen to you.

There are two aspects. One is honored to make it onto the cover. Some kind of recognition. But on the other hand one demands respect for ones own creation.
I looked through the site of this museum. Seems they did more mail-art projects and issued catalogues.
I have had also these experiences over the years. Only mention source and get a copy is what an artist wants.
What happened now feels like: "they stole and missused my work".

Its a great cover! They really should send you a copy, at the least.
I would be upset too if this happened to me! Keep nagging them until they say sorry and send you a catalogue.
