A computer can also produce printed paperwork. I've been using the computer since 1980 for that too. The electronic communication is a different aspect. Creating of printed matter is easy nowadays because of the computer. The traditinal handwork is replaced by computer generated mail-art. Something new and not that difficult to make.
So I do see the changes....
Hmmzz..
I make a lot of computer generated artwork (fractals mostly) and dó believe me : they are not quite so easy to make.
Fractal patterns can be found in African textiles, sculpture, and even hairstyles(!).
I love to explore this patterns with the help of the computer and my knowledge of math.
I understand your point but it's a bit 'kort door de bocht' (if anyone can translate this to an english phrase then please do)
What I meant was that creating the printed matter is easy. Making graphical artworks can be a lot of work. But a painting might take months, the graphical works days or a few weeks (in my eyes).
The result on paper is then easily created. That proces is nowadays so easy.

"Kort door de bocht" in English is difficult. Maybe the worls "too narrowminded" comes in the direction.
... of course computer worked out art can be as well mail art ...
... I got lovely pieces ...
... but it can be printed out a million times ...
... so I prefer a hand worked out piece of art, (painted, glued, collages etc.) which exists normally only one time ...
... merry x-mas ...
Computers can produce massive mailings, but the most special pieces are unique ones. Computers can be used for that as well. It all depends on what a mail-artist wants to make.....
